Leasing an office space is yet another aspect of business that we typically don’t learn about in graduate school, leaving us to navigate a complex process with little guidance. If you’re anything like me, you may have a vague sense that you could negotiate a lease but very little idea of how to actually do that. My guest today, Colin Carr, is an expert in commercial real estate for healthcare providers. He shares a TON of helpful information that you can immediately use when looking for your next office. These are just a few things that we discuss:

    • What is a commercial broker?

Compensation is a big topic in my mastermind groups and consulting. Folks have tons of questions about hourly vs. salary vs. percentage (which I’ve covered on the podcast!), but they also have questions about how much to pay their employees or contractors. Today, I’m sharing more details about the compensation rubric that we developed and implemented in our practice last year. I’ve also included a public copy of the rubric in the show notes if you’d like to create your own!

That’s right, everyone – it’s time for another “best of” episode! This is the end of year SIX for the podcast. When I stop to think about it, there aren’t many things I’ve done consistently for six years. Being married, running, and owning my practice are the ones that come to mind…not even grad school took six years. At this point, I’m going to stop being surprised by the longevity and just lean into it…the Testing Psychologist podcast is apparently here to stay 🙂

This was a remarkable year in many ways. I continued to have the incredible fortune of interviewing truly amazing guests. In fact, three of the episodes here are interviews with returning guests, which is an extra blessing. Downloads continue to increase, showing that there are plenty of folks out there invested in testing and running fulfilling testing practices. And for the first time ever, a business episode has cracked the top five for the year.

As always, thank you all for listening and spreading the word about the podcast. Here’s to another year of talking about testing!

In my individual and group consulting, one thing that comes up ALL THE TIME is, “how do I stop answering the phones?” Giving up the phones is one of the biggest hurdles for practice owners, with good reason.
